Cheryl and Steve’s role in Alabama extends beyond their affinity for dogs; they are also a fervent advocate for women’s empowerment. Their antique shops are more than just businesses; they’re hubs of female leadership and opportunity. Cheryl and Steve fostered a female-led environment for over three decades, reflected in their predominantly female shop teams.
The roots of Dog Mom News can be traced back to 2017, starting modestly as a Facebook group. It blossomed further when Cheryl and Steve Taylor welcomed their Golden Doodle puppy, Teddy Bear Taylor, into their home. Nurturing Teddy showed the necessity for a supportive network where dog moms share insights and advice.
Under their guidance, Dog Mom News has evolved into an essential resource for dog mothers. It offers a blend of practical guidance, from training tips to health advice, and celebrates the unique bond between dogs and their human companions. The platform fosters a community where women celebrate their love for dogs and honor their contributions to the pet industry.

Executive Director
As the co-founder and executive director of Dog Mom News, Wes Garrett drives daily operations and collaborates closely with the team to ensure exceptional results. A seasoned professional with a background in sales, media, and project management, Wes brings a wealth of experience to the table.
Wes’s journey in the production world has been diverse, featuring collaborations on corporate video projects with industry giants like Coca-Cola, Home Depot, Chick-fil-A, and more. His hands-on experience with clients and behind-the-camera work has sharpened his attention to detail and knack for smoothly handling various aspects of business and production.
Beyond the professional realm, Wes’s interests paint a vibrant picture of his personality. A pickleball enthusiast and avid hiker, he finds joy in the rhythm of physical activity, whether it’s at the gym or exploring new trails. Adding a compassionate touch to his pursuits, Wes actively engages with his church’s Christ-centered recovery ministry, volunteering on the production and prayer teams.
Known for his fun-loving spirit and genuine love for dogs, Wes brings a unique blend of professionalism and friendliness to Dog Mom News. When not shaping narratives behind the scenes, you might find him enjoying pickleball, embarking on adventures, or spreading positivity within the Dog Mom News community.
Jason Pate
Executive Producer
Starting his journey in the entertainment industry in 1996 as a 15-year-old bass player, Jason swiftly embraced the multifaceted world of music and media. During 1999-2000, his career shifted significantly as he balanced college radio involvement with full-time band gigs to finance his education. This period not only sharpened his technical production skills but also solidified his passion for media, setting the stage for his future endeavors.
After retiring from music in 2011, Jason transitioned into digital media production with 99.9 The Plug FM. In 2017, he refined media relations before joining Dog Mom News in 2018, discovering his passion with Cheryl and Steve Taylor.
Now, as the Executive Producer of Dog Mom News, Jason leverages his extensive experience in music, broadcasting, and digital marketing to drive the platform’s success. Based in Birmingham, Alabama, with his family of four, he merges professional expertise with personal passions, enriching the Dog Mom News community.
